Viewers tuned in to watch Ethan Ruan's win at the Golden Horse Awards

The 47th Golden Horse Awards scored some impressive ratings last Saturday. It averaged 3.5% overall and was the most-watched ceremony in five years. TTV has in fact produced all three "Golden" shows in 2010. Back in June, the Golden Melody Awards averaged an excellent 5.23%, while last month’s Golden Bell was also well-received with 3.88%.

The Golden Horse bounced back after disappointing ratings from last year. Its highest rated segment came courtesy of Ethan Ruan’s Best Actor win (5.63%), followed by Lu Li Ping for Best Actress (5.3%), and Lin Chi Ling’s leg (4.93%) rounded out the top three.

Other highlights included host Dee Hsu and presenter Bowie Tsang's hug of the century. They were once friends before Hsu’s then-boyfriend Mickey Huang was caught two-timing with Tsang. As for the musical performances, Julia Peng's tribute to the late stars slightly outranked ELVA Hsiao’s much-debated medley.

FTV’s dominating Saturday night lineup was not affected by the Golden Horse at all. Unfortunately, “Mr. J Channel” did seem to take a hit as both of its broadcasts went head-to-head with the awards ceremony. The show recorded 0.16% on cable (Cti) at 8 pm, and 0.51% on free-to-air (CTV) at 10 pm. Over on PTS, “Gloomy Salad Days” was also affected by Golden Horse programming. Ratings for the teen drama have been steadily improving before dropping drastically to around 0.5% last week.

As for Sunday night idol dramas, “Zhong Wu Yen” rebounded to 2.28% after hitting a series-low in the previous week. “Personal Preference” moved back to second place with 1.28% while “Endless Love” dropped to third with 1.07%. “4 Gifts” remained at the bottom with 0.56%. Both Zhong Wu Yen and Endless Love will be ending this Sunday.
