Zhong Wu Yen ratings improve for the first time

Farewell, Mike He!

Zhong Wu Yen finally got some much-needed good news with its latest episode last Sunday. Ratings for the struggling drama increased for the first time since it debuted 4 weeks ago. It drew an averaging rating of 2.27%, so Ming Dao and company can breathe a sigh of relief (at least for now).

Summer’s Desire remained in second with 1.66%, followed by a surprisingly good performance by Detect Conan: The Raven Chaser with 1.13%. In last place was Calling For Love, which ended its run with the lowest ratings of the series at 0.45%. Its successor Endless Love will attempt to overcome this ratings hellhole when it debuts on Sunday.

Endless Love won't be the only new entry this weekend. Detective Conan is taking a break as CTV will be airing the final of One Million Star: Star Legend live starting at 8 pm on the 22nd. The show once dominated Friday’s ratings and created a new wave of talented singers. Unlike previous seasons, Star Legend features past contestants and challengers competing for a second chance at stardom.

One Million Star has struggled in recent years but Star Legend started off some decent ratings initially.  However, the show has since been on the the decline, especially after the runaway hit Rookies’ Diary debuted in the same time slot. Million Star averaged 0.91% compared to Rookies’ 11.74% last Friday. CTV hopes to hit a home run by moving the final to this Sunday, or at least regain its dignity.

The network will return with a new idol drama in September starring Nicholas Teo and Rice Family’s Hsiu Chieh Kai (修杰楷). We’ll have more on that later.
