Xiao S and Harlem to host the Golden Melody Awards

Great news for fans of Golden Melody Awards! This year’s host will be Xiao S (Dee Hsu) and Harlem Yu! The two will try their best to keep the historically-overrunning show under control. This year’s Golden Melody Awards will be held on June 26 at the Taipei Arena. What’s surprising to everyone is that despite TTV was heavily criticized for doing a bad job in organizing last year’s Golden Bell Awards, TTV has been chosen to organize this year’s Golden Melody. Whether they would be able to redeem themselves, we will have to wait and see.

Azio TV has always hosted the award show, but this year, both TTV and TVBS also bid to host the show. After careful consideration, the GIO (Government Information Office) declared that TTV scored the most votes, thus, winning them the rights to organize and host the award show. The director of GIO explained that TTV won the bidding due to its seriousness, talent, and experience. He further added that TTV had a very complete and detail project proposal. After witnessing their success in organizing the “Red and White Superstar show,” GIO is confident that TTV will do a great job for Golden Melody awards. However, he also said that if the outcome is far off from expectation, there will not be a next time.

Last year, TTV was harshly criticized after hosting the Golden Bell Awards, but TTV clarified, “Golden Bell was produced by another production company and we were only responsible in broadcasting it.” This time, TTV will be producing and broadcasting Golden Melody Awards, in hope to repeat its success they had with the “Red and White Superstar show.” The content, budget, and performing guests are considered top secret. Representative Zhou Fa Xun only stated, “Thank you for GIO’s approval. Regardless of the production or set design, we assure that it will amaze everyone.”

The nominees for Golden Melody Awards will be announced in mid-May. Currently, the committee contains 40 judges that are now going through approximately 9000 applicants. Although Warner Music publicly announced that they would not be participating in the awards, they applied in the end.
