Next stop for Donnie Yen: The wax museum

No one knows if this is a horror story in the making or not, but it is definitely great news for fans of the Universe’s Strongest all over the world. A wax version of Donnie Yen will soon go on display at the Madame Tussauds Museum in Hong Kong! The figure is modeled after his role as Ip Man, and Donnie said he is honored to have played this life-changing character.

The wax figure was created while Donnie Yen was busy filming Ip Man 2. Staff from the Madame Tussauds Museum flew from the UK to Shanghai in order to measure the actor. It took over six hours for the measurements to complete, but it was all done to ensure the most perfect wax re-creation. Donnie said the process was even tougher than a one-on-ten fight, as he had to remain still for the entire time, “I thought it was going to be really simple, like taking data of my body, and then enter them on a computer. It turned out that they have a traditional way of taking measurements, and it’s been done like that for hundreds of years.”

Donnie said he is thrilled to appear in the museum as his character Ip Man, “When you talk about Jet Li, (his character) ‘Wong Fei Hung’ comes to mind; when you talk about Chow Yun-Fat, it’s ‘Mark Gor’ right away. Ip Man is my masterpiece, and because of Ip Man, I have gained many friends and paychecks.” He will be back in the mainland to film his new movie Guan Yun Chang, and then return to premiere the figure in April. Donnie plans to bring his wife and children to see his double, “(I) can tell friends who I haven’t seen for a long time, fans, even my wife to come often and chat with my wax figure.”
