KKBOX's Weekly Mandopop Music Chart - March 21 - 27, 2010

(We're Not Together)
Genre: Pop Ballad

Album: Together
Watch: Song
Comment: While Taiwanese actress René Liu has had an illustrious film career, she may be better known to western audiences for her song "Black Black Heart" due to a famous lipsynched internet meme from Chinese duo Back Dorm Boys. René makes another musical contribution with her recent contribution "We're Not Together", which is also the ending theme to SETTV's idol drama "PS Man".

(I'm Very Happy Now)
Genre: Pop Ballad

Album: Before, After
Watch: MV
Comment: One of the more unique sounding songs from A-Lin’s latest album, the sound mixes haunting harp-like strings with light electrical guitar interludes, before a fuller band cues in later in the song. All this playing background to the rich vocals of A-Lin. Truly an unique, yet beautiful, song.

3. (+22) S.H.E - 愛上你 (In Love With You)
Genre: Pop

Album: SHERO
Watch: song
Comment: “In Love With You” is a light beat song with a catchy chorus and some rapping involved. The song is probably best known as the ending theme to the Ella and Jerry Yan’s idol drama, “Down With Love.”

(Not That Simple)
Genre: R&B Ballad

Album: Simple / Not Simple
Watch: MV
Comment: Veteran pub singer Tiger Huang releases a brand new album, “Simple / Not Simple,” after becoming popular as a judge on the hit singing competition show, “Million Star.” In contrast to her poisonous tongue image on the competition show, Tiger Huang softens her image with a new wig and demonstrates her powerful vocal in this soothing love ballad, “Not That Simple.”

5. (-2) S.H.E - SHERO
Genre: Pop

Album: SHERO
Watch: MV
Comment: S.H.E’s newest single, “SHERO,” debuts at number 13 on the chart. “SHERO” repeats the feminist theme that has been apparent in S.H.E’s previous albums. S.H.E enriches the pop-rock song with their harmonized vocals.

(Love Doesn’t Travel Alone)
Genre: Pop Ballad

Album: Rashomon
Watch: MV
Comment: Show Luo may be known as the dance king to many Mandopop fans, but his "Love Doesn’t Travel Alone" proves that he has fans that adore his ballads as well. The song has become widely popular as the insert song to the hit drama, "Hi! My Sweetheart," which also stars this hearthrob singer.

(Need Practice Breaking Up)
Genre: Pop Ballad

Album: Before, After
Watch: MV
Comment: In A-Lin’s second single, “Need Practice Breaking Up,” she invited Eddie Peng and Alice Ke to star in the scripted 7 minute long music video. This heartbreaking single has less groundbreaking high notes that was in her first single “Before, After,” but it still showcases A-Lin’s wide-ranged vocals.

(Before, After)
Genre: Pop Ballad

Album: Before, After

(Rainie Love)
Genre: Pop Ballad

Album: Rainie Love
Watch: MV
Comment: Following the success of “Take Me Away” in her previous album, Rainie Yang presents us with yet another drama ending theme song, “Rainie Love” (Hi! My Sweetheart). This debut song is also her debut track and most well-known from her latest album.

(I Love Him)
Genre: Pop Ballad

Album: Night Cat
Watch: MV
Comment: “I Love Him” was released almost a month before “Autumn’s Concerto” started broadcasting and didn’t achieve outstanding results until the drama came on TV. Due to the drama’s popularity, the single has risen back up to top 10 in the music chart. Despite the drama being a massive hit, it has yet to top the chart. Its highest ranking is third place and has been in the chart for 22 weeks and counting. The music video does not feature any scenes from the drama, but instead, Ding Dang has specially invited Xiu Jie Kai, who was in Black & White, to star in it.

(Anonymous Friend)
Genre: Pop Ballad

Album: Rainie Love
Watch: MV
Comment: “Anonymous Friend” is another single of Rainie’s that continues to stay in the top 10. Not only is this an insert song to “Hi! My Sweetheart,” which Rainie stars in with Show Luo, it is also the Mandarin opening theme to the Korean drama, “Brilliant Legacy.” With the support of the dramas, the idol drama star, Rainie Yang, continues to have success with ballads.

(I’ll Be Used to It)
Genre: Pop Ballad

Album: Rashomon
Watch: MV
Comment: After Show Luo’s usual dance song in his first single release, his second single in his latest album, Rashomon, is “I’ll Be Used to It.” The song and lyrics were written by F.I.R.’s guitarist, Ah Qin. Show challenges the wide vocal range in this ballad. The music video was also specially filmed in New York.

14. (-5) Nicky Lee 李玖哲 - Making Love Out Of Nothing At All
Genre: R&B Ballad

Album: Monga Movie OST
Watch: Song
Comment: British soft rock duo Air Supply's 1983 megahit song receives a modern update for 2010's Taiwanese blockbuster flick Monga. The song, which is featured on that movie's soundtrack, was sung by none other than veteran Korean-American Mandopop singer Nicky Lee, who retains the original English lyrics while prevailing to transition this song successfully to a Mandarin-speaking audience. An excellent ballad that has had a long international journey.

15. (NEW) Kevin Lin 林隆璇 ft. (When Did We Forget)
Genre: Pop ballad

Album: When Did We Forget...?
Watch: MV
Comment: After regaining his popularity as one of the main judges on the singing competition show, Super Idol, Kevin Lin comes back with a new album. He specially invited Super Idol season 1 winner, Chang Yun-Jing, to sing this duet, “When Did We Forget…?” with him. Kevin revealed that it took him a year to finalize the song. The duet also samples a famous line from Kevin’s previous 90’s mega hit duet, “Rumors” – Rumors spreading here and there, when will it stop. Although there wasn’t any feeling of romance between Kevin and Chang Yun-Jing, Kevin still hopes that the song did spark a different kind of chemistry.

(Why Did You Lie)
Genre: Pop Ballad

Album: Night Cat
Watch: MV
Comment: A typical Della-style song, the mainland singer provides a tune whose instrumentals flourish at pivotal moments of the hugely popular Autumn’s Concerto idol drama, whose soundtrack is already populated by songs from her latest album. The MV itself is also interesting, as it was shot entirely in New York, bringing an “exotic” location, in East Asian terms, to an epic ballad.

(Preferred Love)
Genre: R&B Ballad

Album: Unprecedented
Watch: MV
Comment: Jing has been the darling of the Taiwanese media after her win from Season 1 of Taiwan's popular talent show Super Idol, but it was her rock vibe vocals that enticed listeners to beautiful, yet powerful, melodies. Her latest tune Preferred Love is no exception, as the song gives us both a soaring and a soothing experience that touches on Jing's talents.

(Love’s Home Turf)
Genre: Dance

Album: Rashomon
Watch: MV
Comment: Like always, Show Luo releases a dance song as his first single in the latest album, Rashomon, resonating his status as a dancer-singer. “Love’s Home Turf,” similar to his previous major album dance singles, contains a specially choreographed dance. The group is already grabbing some attention in the music scene after several collaborations with other artists such as Della Ding (duet) and AShin of Mayday (MV filming). “Who am I, Who am I, Who am I,” which is one of their latest singles, has been gaining popularity as it is the opening theme song to the idol drama, “PS Man.”

(Three Wishes)
Genre: Pop Ballad

Album: Love Poem
Watch: MV
Comment: Rachel Liang’s rise to stardom has been a bumpy one since her runner-up placing on Season 2 of Taiwan’s talent show One Million Star.
