Mark Chao and Ethan Ruan arrives in Berlin to promote Monga

The current mega hit movie, “Monga,” will be showcased at the Berlin International Film Festival’s Panorma. After a 20 hour flight, the handsome duo, Mark Chao and Ethan Ruan arrived in Berlin just the night before, looking exhausted.

“Monga” hit theatres on February 5th in Taiwan, and it has already surpassed two hundred million at the box office. The director of GIO Department of Motion Pictures in Taiwan announced that the movie is eligible for at least forty million in subsidy. Director Chen Zhi-Kuan said the government awards local Taiwanese movies with 20% of their total intake if they make over fifty million at the box office. They hope the grant will help filmmakers to start their next film and encourage more production of local movies. As Monga is being well received at the Berlin Film Festival, the movie's popularity has already begun to spread overseas . Even the organizer have taken the initiative to put up Monga’s English poster, giving it some free promotion.

Director Niu Cheng Ze, Producer Li Lie, Mark Chao, and Ethan Ruan exited the Berlin customs with wooden expressions. Although tired, they still revealed a smile after hearing reporters calling them, “Hundred million dollar Director” and “Blockbuster star.” When they arrived in Berlin, the temperature was minus 2 to 8 degrees Celsius, and Mark expressed, “It’s colder than I thought.” Ethan, who could barely keep his eyes opened said, “It was a long flight. I’m super tired. I just want to sleep. I don’t have energy to fool around now.” Just after saying that, Ethan humorously began to introduce that Germany as the home of BMW, Benz, and Porsche, “It’d be boring if I don’t joke around.” Ethan revealed that he has been in Berlin before and explained, “Entering the country is the same as passing through borders.” Mark immediately responded, “It’s completely different!”

When asked if they hugged each other on Valentine’s Day since they spent it together on the flight, Ethan replied, “We were in deep sleep!”

There will be six showings of Monga at the Film Festival, and the capacity per screening is one thousand. Mark and Ethan will return to Taiwan after 58 hours. Ethan laughed, “It takes two days to get here and back, but we’re only going to stay here for two days. It’s a joke.” Director Niu spoke honestly, “I hope I can take a nice shower.”
