Mark Chao checks out the competition

Monga star Mark Chao and his parents attended the press screening for the new movie Confucius yesterday.  The mega-budget movie starring Chow Yun-Fat and Zhou Xun was screened one day ahead of the also highly anticipated Monga.  Both movies, along with 14 Blades starring Donnie Yan and Wu Chun, will go head-to-head when they all hit theaters on February 5th

Mark Chao was asked if he went to the Confucius screening to spy on the competition, he laughed and said, “It’s not like that.”  When asked if he or senior Chow Yun-Fat is the better actor, he initially responded with confident, “Everyone will know after watching.”  However, Mark Chao later revealed that he was very moved by Chow Yun-Fat’s performance and complimented that the movie was great.  He cried when Confucius shared horse meat soup with his students after they have been starving for 7 days.  Mark Chao was asked if he is concerned about Monga’s box office performance, he answered modestly, “They can’t be compared.  One is a historical figure, while the other is a location.”

Before the screening started, Mark Chao went to the snack bar to purchase a bottle of water.  The vendor gave it to him for free and he reported back to his dad about it.  Mark Chao didn't drink the whole bottle himself, he followed the spirit of Confucius and gave dad the remaining half bottle to finish the rest.
