[Video] Jackie Chan not doing karate in upcoming "The Karate Kid" remake

Remember when Mr. Miyagi would teach his young westerner apprentice Daniel-san to “wax on, wax off” during his training, in order to teach him the ways of martial arts? If you don’t, then you were either too young or weren’t even born yet when he did back when the original 1984 blockbuster hit “The Karate Kid” came out.

Fortunately (or unfortunately, depending on your opinion of Hollywood remakes), the upcoming summer release of the “re-imagined” version of the original classic hits the big screen with a brand new cast and…no karate? The remake stars Will Smith’s son Jaden and international superstar Jackie Chan for an updated version of the karate classic, though one wonders why the movie retained the original title. After all, it takes place in Beijing, the cast is nearly all Chinese, and the martial arts of focus is kung fu.

Whatever the case, the new trailer for the 2010 remake began circulating around the web just yesterday. Geared for a June 11th release, the movie doesn’t look too bad, though expect it to be typical popcorn flick to distract you from the summer heat once it’s out. And judging from the trailer, we can all safely say that this movie will be no worse than Jackie’s 2006 movie “Rob-B-Hood”. Or so we hope.
